    One in every four death occurs due to a heart related disease. The good news is that having a heart related disease like Heart Attack is not inevitable. 75% of Heart Attacks in young people are due to life style choices and can be avoided by following certain simple rules.
    Keeping your heart healthy is much simpler than you might think. Here are a few lifestyle changes that can prevent a heart attack :

    Healthy Diet : A diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains can help protect your heart. Beans, other low fat sources of energy and certain types of fish such as Tuna can also reduce your risk of heart disease. Control your intake of salt and saturated and trans fats. A healthy diet will also help you maintain a healthy weight.
    Quit Smoking: Smoking or using tobacco in any form is one the most significant risk factors for developing a heart disease. No matter how much you have smoked, you will start reaping its benefits as soon as you quit smoking.
    Exercise : Try getting atleast 30 to 60 minutes of moderately intense physical activity each day. All kinds of exercises including running, walking, swimming will help. Activities like gardening, housekeeping, taking the stairs are all very helpful.
    Manage Stress : Stress causes damage to your arteries which leads to heart diseases. Try yoga deep breathing exercises, meditation and other forms of relaxation. Find out what works best for you.
    Blood Pressure and Cholestrol : Keep your Blood Pressure and Cholestrol in check. Eat fibre rich food to keep your cholestrol in check. Consult a doctor and take medication if required.
    Limit Drinking : Addiction to alcohol increases the blood pressure which increases the risk of heart attack.
    Around half of the heart attack deaths occur within one hour of the heart attack and outside a hospital. It is therefore critical to know what to do in case you or someone else experiences a heart attack. To significantly improve the chances of surviving a heart attack, you should do the following in this order :

    Call for emergency medical help : Time is of essence in case of a heart attack. As soon as you or anyone else experiences a heart attack, the first thing you should do is call for emergency medical help.

    Aspirin : While you wait for the ambulance, give the person an aspirin to chew on until the ambulance arrives. Aspirin is a very effective blood thinner and prevents the blood clot from getting bigger.
